Introduction

Education and Professional Career Development Bureau was established in February 2019 and coordinates human resource development initiatives implemented at individual units in the Center: ensures effective human resource development; consolidates information on human resource development across the Center; prepares and implements organizational initiative plans.

The Team and What We Do

The NCC hosts researchers and trainees and provides educational and training opportunities to those from external organizations (Table 1). The graduate school program has produced a large number of students and degree recipients in past years (Table 2). In FY2022, the cooperative graduate school programs were substantially reorganized, the following three initiatives were implemented.

(1)  Rules and regulations revision

Standardization of terminology within the NCC, creation of a new category of "Partner Graduate School Student," standardization of the guidance system for partner graduate school students, clarification of the scope of faculty members' duties, and organization of items to be included in the agreement for cooperative graduate school programs, were realized through the establishment of the regulations.

(2)  Cooperative Graduate School Committee

The cooperative graduate school committee was established for sharing information and discussing issues concerning cooperative graduate school programs. As a result of the committee meeting in FY2022, standardized rules for research guidance for partner graduate school students were established, which led to the quality assurance of learning opportunities without depending solely on faculty development from each university.

(3)  New agreements

In FY2022, the aforementioned items to be included in the agreement were studied, and a template of the cooperative graduate school agreement was made to facilitate conclusions. As a result, new agreements were signed respectively with two universities. NCC will continue to expand partnerships whilst assessing the result of the new partnerships at both universities and the NCC.

Research Activities

The NCC has cooperated with the Japan Health Research Promotion Bureau (JH), the National Center for Advanced and Specialized Medicine (NC) in establishing the training infrastructure and has begun to provide 6NC common education courses through ICRweb which is a web-based system of introduction to clinical research. In FY2022, we have enhanced lectures such as animal experiments, data science, intellectual property, in addition to clinical research.

Future Prospects

The NCC mission of human resource development and education is not only to secure the foundation for its own activities, but also to produce and disseminate highly specialized human resources throughout Japan. While taking a long-term perspective on human resource development and education, we must take advantage of the characteristics of both Tsukiji and Kashiwa campuses and take on new challenges in order to develop and produce highly specialized human resources who are ahead of their time.
