Short Biography
Dr. Takahiro Higashi is the Director of Center for Cancer Registries and Division Chief of Health Services at the National Cancer Center. He is a board-certified general internist trained at St. Luke's International Hospital, and received extensive training in research as a fellow at UCLA Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research, where he also obtained his PhD in Health Services.
His primary research interest is in quality of cancer care. He is currently the lead investigator for a nationwide project to establish a system for measuring and improving the quality of care for cancer patients in Japan through the use of large clinical database. Dr. Higashi is also involved in various research projects that aim to monitor health policy and public health programs in cancer control.
He is a former associate professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Tokyo, and continues to teach students as an adjunct professor. Dr. Higashi also obtained his MD from University of Tokyo.
