Cancer Registration Seminar in Indonesia
National Cancer Center (NCC) organized a cancer registration seminar, in Jakarta, on 8-10 March at the Dharmais Cancer Hospital – National Cancer Center Indonesia. The seminar was supported by the National Cancer Center Korea and was delivered based on the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Cancer Research, signed in October 2017 by NCC and Dharmais Cancer Hospital – National Cancer Center Indonesia.
Both domestic and international experts, including Tomohiro Matsuda and Tatsuya Suzuki (NCC) delivered lectures on registration, control and epidemiology of cancer, to over sixty participants of clinical doctors, pathologists, and those engaged in cancer registries in Jakarta.
With a population of over 255 million, Indonesia is actively involved in dealing with international issues, placing emphasis on ASEAN in terms of regional diplomacy. Recently, there are growing concerns over the increase of cancer, as life expectancy rises due to improvements in public health and changes in lifestyle. However there remains much to be done to capture the burden of cancer in the country. Following the seminar, we plan to continue to support cancer registries in Indonesia.
As an IARC GICR Collaborating Centre, NCC will continue to support nations in the Asian region facing the growing burden of cancer, by providing cancer registration consultancy services.
