Quality Control Training for Cancer Registry in Myanmar

Co-organized by the National Cancer Center (NCC) Japan, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Vital Strategies, Dr Tomohiro Matsuda (Head of National Cancer Registry Section, NCC Japan) delivered lectures at the Quality Control Training for Cancer Registry in Yangon, Myanmar from October 9-11.
Since 2018, Vital Strategies has collaborated with the Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports to establish and strengthen population-based cancer registry in Yangon, Myanmar. NCC Japan as one of the collaborating centers of IARC, has been actively collaborating with other Asian cancer centers to support the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR) launched by IARC.
Under the guidance of Dr Hiromi Sugiyama (Senior Scientist, Dept. of Epidemiology, Radiation Effects Research Foundation) one of the registered GICR regional trainers, the training reviewed the management structure and registry work flow of the Yangon population-based cancer registry and also performed its quality control assessment of completeness, comparability, validity and timeliness of data collected for year 2018, based on the standardized program. Training participants came from not only Yangon but also Nay Pyi Taw cancer registry.
