Supporting Cancer Registration in Viet Nam

The National Cancer Center (NCC) Japan took part in cancer registration workshops in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from July 3rd to 8th, as part of the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR). The events were held with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Vital Strategies (VS), both signees of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with NCC.
Key stakeholders representing the National Cancer Hospital, Viet Nam (K hospital) and Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital (HCMCOH), also signees of MoUs with NCC, participated in the events. Discussions focused on aligning with international standards of cancer registration and on establishing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). In the conference with the Ministry of Health of Viet Nam, Tomohiro Matsuda (Chief, Division of International Health Policy Research, NCC Japan) gave a lecture sharing his experience of improving cancer statistics in Japan. Plans for preparing mortality statistics and linkage of health insurance information to cancer statistics were set, towards establishing a cancer registry serving the entire nation.
During this visit, progress of the ATLAS project as lead by NCC Hospital was also discussed with partners in Viet Nam, and reunions with NCC visitor alumni were enjoyed, giving momentum towards friendly and stronger relationship between Viet Nam and NCC in future.
