Dr Tatsuhiro Shibata nominated Scientific Council Member of IARC

Dr Tatsuhiro Shibata, Chief – Division of Cancer Genomics of the National Cancer Center Research Institute has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Council of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the cancer research arm of the World Health Organization (WHO). The appointment was made by the Governing Council during its meeting on 15-16 May 2024, for the period 2025-2028.

Dr Shibata has collaborated with IARC in research, and in the editing process of the World Cancer Report. His appointment is anticipated to expand IARC collaboration in Asia.

The Princess Takamatsu Hall at IARC, named in recognition of Japan’s contribution to the organization, was also officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
