Dr. Abdoulaye Djimdé, who won the 5th Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize, visited NCC Japan.
On August 21, 2025.
We were honored to welcome Dr. Djimdé to our Tsukiji office. He is the director of Parasites & Microbes Research & Training Center (PMRTC), University of Science, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako in the Republic of Mali, and was awarded the 5th Noguchi Prize in the medical research category in recognition of his contributions to malaria treatment/control, and his achievements in establishing a network for collaborative malaria research in Africa, including the training system for researchers.
While he is an epidemiologist, he developed an interest in cancer research due to having several cancer patients around him. Dr. Toga introduced the overview of NCC Japan’s mission and functions, and Dr. Kohno shared the role of Center for Cancer Genomics and Advanced Therapeutics (C-CAT) and clinical research initiatives utilizing its data.
From Dr. Djimdé, fascinating insights, such as the scarcity of oncologists and trends in cancer types in the Republic of Mali was provided. It was a privilege to exchange ideas and insights.
