Introduction
In 2016, we focused on implementing nutrition-guidance. Increasing the number of nutrition-guidance was an effort to improve quality. We cooperated with various researches through nutritional guidance.
Routine activities
Hospitalized patient meals totaled 331,288 in 2016, and we gave nutrition-guidance to 3,186 persons. There have been 1,498 new requests for consultations with the nutrition support team (NST), an average of 125 per month (Table 1).
Cooking classes for cancer prevention were held three times as planned.
Cooking classes to cope with cancer symptoms have been held 187 times since the beginning of the program. In 2016, special cooking classes for esophageal narrowing were also held.
Research activities
We are conducting researches in collaboration with various medical departments. In 2016, with the Department of Gastric Surgery, the "QOL survey after gastric cancer surgery" and "rehabilitation nutrition of preoperative chemotherapy" started.
Continuing from last year, the "Research on the effectiveness of rehabilitation and nutritional therapy in perioperative hepatobiliary surgery" and the "Development of obesity in preoperative weight loss program of patients with colorectal cancer and influence on postoperative complications" were also conducted. Before confirming the effect of preoperative and postoperative nutritional guidance, we aim to participate in a true complete treatment plan.
In other studies, there are researches on dietary support for cancer survivors.
Education
In the field of human resources development, we have a strong commitment to education and training and have conducted eight university courses for registered dietitians within universities. By strengthening our cooperation with universities, our aim is to enhance research activities in the future through the development of human resources.
Future prospects
We will plan to hold numerous lectures for local information about influence cancer therapy and cancer prevention. We want to strive and spread correct knowledge among a lot of people. We also plan to develop nutritional guidance methods and nutritional guidance media to improve the quality of nutrition management for hospitalized patients and outpatients.
