Nutrition Management Office

Introduction
The nutritional diet guidance at the Supportive Care Development Center of the National Cancer Center (NCC) can be enriched by multi-disciplinary collaboration and can respond promptly to requests at any time.
The number of nutritional diet instruction guidance from January 2017 to March 2018 shows an increasing trend after aggressively responding to outpatient nutritional diet guidance at an esophageal cancer perioperative period.
Pancreatic cancer classes held in multiple occasions, guidance for collective nutrition food sponsored by the Nutrition Management Office, and nutrition classes for outpatients have also gained popularity from users.
The results from January 2017 to March 2018 are shown below.
- The number of new interventions by the Nutrition Support Team (NST) was 1,889 (Table 1).
- The Nutrition Management Office provided 567,915 meals in total.
- The number of nutritional diet guidance was 2,455, and the number of group guidance was 1,276.
Our team and what we do
We conduct the research on improving the nutrition and dietary environment of cancer patients aiming to disseminate information such as proposals of menu preparations for home care patients, and hints for preventing malnutrition.
In the collaborative research, the research on the improvement of the precision of meal correspondence in accordance with changes in the preference of meals of cancer patients is ongoing.
Education
We accepted trainees from eleven training schools for registered dietitians (11 schools; 13 groups) and provided practical training. It was performed in cooperation with universities as part of the human resource development. The NST specialized therapist certified institution clinical implementation training was conducted for in-hospital and out-hospital subjects, and twenty-two and seven people were awarded a certificate of completion. We actively participated in lectures inside and outside the hospital and conducted educational activities on cancer treatment and nutrition.
The NCC Hospital was certified as the Training Facility for Certified Specialist of Registered Dietitian for Cancers by the Japan Society of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition.
Future prospects
In the food service, with thorough hygiene control, the top priority is given to the provision of safe meals.
We strive to provide a variety of foods by improving the menu.
We aim to provide effective nutritional management and nutrition counseling services, and to achieve improved treatment outcomes, as well as enhance vital prognosis and patient's QOL.
