Introduction
A linear accelerator-based boron neutron therapy system was developed using a solid lithium target, which was realized for the first time in the world. Now physical and biological experiments are performed to measure the neutron spectrum from an accelerator. After the consultation with PMDA, the first-in-human trial was launched this year.
The Team and What We Do
Physical and biological experiments of neutron fields are performed. Now the first-in-human trial of the linear accelerator-based BNCT system is ongoing. Patients with melanoma and angiosarcoma are the subject of the study.
Research activities
The physical and biological experiments are intensively performed. Additionally, to select the optimal patients for BNCT, basic and clinical research of F-BPA PET/CT is being done.
Clinical trials
First-in-human trials were commenced after consultation with PMDA in 2019. Patients with melanoma and angiosarcoma are the subject of the study.
Future prospects
With the hospital-based BNCT system, recruitment of patients into BNCT clinical trials will be facilitated and the role of BNCT in oncology will be established very soon.
