Introduction
From April 2023 to March 2024, we focused on implementing cancer nutrition guidance. This was done as an effort to increase the amount of nutrition guidance and improve quality.
We have established and implemented a system for nutritional guidance by a registered dietitian who has expertise with outpatient chemotherapy patients.
The Team and What We Do
Hospitalized patient meals totaled 324,816 during this period, and we provided nutrition guidance to 6,980 individuals. Regarding discussions with the Nutrition Support Team (NST), there were an average of 145 new requests per month (Table 1).

Our long-running cooking classes could not be held as planned due to the COVID-19 infection epidemic. During this time, in 2019, the recipe search site "CHEER!" has opened. We made a leap forward by creating three new recipe videos and posting them on our site. It aims to help cancer patients and their families manage the symptoms of cancer that affect their diet.
Research Activities
During this time, we participated in the NEXTAC-III trial, PreSte-HN trial, POMERANIAN study, and PGSAS study, providing nutritional intervention and accumulating cases.
Education
We are entrusted with the clinical training by 6 universities, while implementing COVID-19 outbreak control measures during this period.
In human resource development, we have strengthened support so that we can obtain professional qualifications certified by academic societies. This resulted in three persons becoming JSMCN Certified Metabolic and Clinical Registered Dietitians during the period, and one becoming a JSMCN Certified Specialist of Registered Dietitian for Cancers.
Future Prospects
We plan to hold lectures not only for the local community but also for many people on the impact of cancer treatment and cancer prevention, and we would like to disseminate practical know-how.
In addition, we will continue to develop nutrition guidance methods and nutrition guidance information tools to improve the quality of nutrition management for inpatients and outpatients.
