Introduction
The Education and Professional Career Development Bureau was established in February 2019 to achieve the following objectives: to enhance coordination of educational activities across departments, to consolidate information on educational activities conducted across the entire institution, and to advance interdepartmental collaboration and develop future strategies for educational activities.
The Team and What We Do
The NCC provides research and educational opportunities to a wide range of external researchers and trainees (Table 1). In addition, we operate a Collaborative Graduate School Programs, which has produced degree recipients (Table 2).
(1) Launch of the website introducing the Collaborative Graduate School Program
In 2023, we launched the website to introduce the collaborative graduate school programs. Through the website, we will widely publicize our efforts in the Collaborative Graduate School Program. This will raise awareness of professional education initiatives at the National Cancer Center.

(2) The signing of new Collaborative Graduate School Agreements with two universities
In 2024, we signed agreements with two new universities. This brings the number of universities with which the NCC has Collaborative Graduate School Programs to 26, significantly contributing to creating a foundation for educational and research activities. We plan to consider new collaborations while assessing the effectiveness of cooperation between universities and the NCC.
(3) Implementation of orientation for the Collaborative Graduate School Program
We launched an orientation on the Collaborative Graduate School Program to raise awareness of the system and increase the number of graduate students. We aim to further enhance the utilization of the Collaborative Graduate School Program by clarifying the unique characteristics of each partner university and widely publicizing this information to our staff members who are considering using the system.
(4) Reform of the resident education program
Over 50 years have passed since the resident education program was established. As the environment surrounding the NCC has changed significantly over this period, we established a working group in 2024 composed primarily of young physicians with resident experience. This WG will review the role of residents and undertake improvement initiatives by gathering opinions through surveys and hearings. We plan to continue advancing discussions aimed at reforming the resident education program.
Research Activities
We have examined the National Center for Advanced Medical Care, Medical Research Collaboration Promotion Headquarters (JH)'s training infrastructure and have begun distributing it as a 6NC standard education course using ICRweb, the Center's clinical research and education infrastructure.
Future Prospects
The Education and Professional Career Development Bureau's mission is to secure the foundation for its activities and produce highly specialized human resources throughout Japan. We must take on challenges by utilizing the characteristics of both campuses to develop and deliver highly active professionals and researchers.
