Descriptive and Analytical Epidemiological Research Using Big Data

In the Integrated Cancer Research Division, we collaborate with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to analyze international trends in cancer incidence and mortality using global cancer epidemiological databases. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, we are conducting detailed investigations of cancer risk factors based on a cohort of more than 13,000 colorectal cancer cases.

Analysis of Organ-Specific Characteristics of Cancer

To investigate organ-specific characteristics of cancer, we collaborate with Harvard University and domestic and international laboratories. We analyze changes in cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment, including immune cell infiltration and the tumor microbiome.

Integrated Cancer Research

We integrate tumor data with large-scale epidemiological data on diet, lifestyle, medications, environmental factors, and socioeconomic factors to comprehensively investigate how cancers develop and progress from precancerous conditions. Our approach validates cancer development processes—previously demonstrated mainly in basic research—in large human populations, thereby contributing to the elucidation of cancer mechanisms and the development of prevention strategies.
