Division of Molecular Pathology

Research Activity

Since the whole human genome was available in 2000, advances of molecular technologies enable us to examine the whole genomes of individual tumors. These results facilitate the development of many molecular targeted agents, some of which have high efficacies against particular gene alterations. Such clinical practices were conducted on the basis of pathological diagnoses, which are now addressed by expression of various proteins and gene alterations beyond morphology. The Division of Molecular Pathology, which is closely coordinated with the Department of Diagnostic Pathology in the National Cancer Center Hospital, is a research group to explore the cancer pathogenesis through morphological and molecular approaches. The attempts are exemplified by the studies listed in the research projects.
