G7 Cancer Presidency Transition: Passing the Baton from INCa to NCCJ
Apr 17, 2024
The National Cancer Center Japan (NCCJ) will assume the presidency of G7 Cancer, an international partnership to accelerate the global fight against cancer, from the French National Cancer Institute (INCa). The official handover ceremony will take place at the G7 Cancer Strategic Committee Meeting in Lyon in May 2026.
Initiated by INCa, G7 Cancer was launched in 2023 and has produced a number of significant outcomes over the past three years. Since its inception, NCCJ has actively contributed to collaborative research on cancer control and policy implementation, working closely with fellow member organizations.
During the two-year presidency starting in June 2026, NCCJ will continue to build on the strong foundation established under INCa’s leadership, further strengthening international collaboration and contributing to the acceleration of efforts toward overcoming cancer.
It should be noted that French President Emmanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi welcomed the handover of the G7 Cancer presidency and affirmed its significance in their Joint Leaders’ Statement issued on April 1, 2026.
